The Eurasian Lynx or Northern Lynx (Lynx lynx) is a species of lynx found in Eurasia. In German usage, "lynx" almost always means this species. After the bear and the wolf, this cat is the largest land predator native to Europe.
The Eurasian lynx has been severely persecuted for many decades. After the species had disappeared by targeted eradication measures from Western Europe, they migrated from about 1950 from adjacent residential areas again and was also targeted resettled. Today, among other things, the Alps, the Jura, the Vosges, the Harz, the Fichtelgebirge, the Bavarian Forest, the Rothaargebirge, Bohemian Forest and the Spessart of lynxes populated. In Germany, according to the BfN's Red List, the lynx is still considered to be in serious danger
